Care Tip of the Month

Getting Down on the Dirt!

At this time of year, thoroughly washing the car is never wrong. A question often asked by motoring fans is: “Which is best, manual washing or a trip to the car wash?”

The answer: Both methods are good, provided that certain factors are taken into account. A wash in a poorly maintained car wash with dirty brushes can cause just as much damage as manual washing with a dirty sponge, as dirt particles can scratch the paintwork. In the automatic car wash, however, a large quantity of water is used which reduces the danger of scratches somewhat. And if the installation works with a high pressure pre wash programme the coarser dirt is removed before the brushes come into action.

Manual washing is especially thorough – and using a sponge you can get into nooks and corners which are usually not easily accessible. Important: First of all, use a powerful water jet to remove the coarser grime, e.g. in a self service car wash installation. Before washing, spray the wheel rims with a non acidic rim cleaner such as SONAX Xtreme Rim Cleaner full effect.

For perfect manual washing, you will need a bucket of water, a SONAX Multi Sponge and a suitable car shampoo. A top notch product, like the SONAX Xtreme Shampoo 2 in 1 wash & dry, removes the dirt without affecting the wax coating on the paintwork. Work from top to bottom, wringing out the sponge at regular intervals to remove stray dirt particles. Try not to stir up dirt particles that have collected at the bottom of the bucket! Rinse off one last time with clear water for a wonderfully clean car.

Shampoo with built in dryer

A wonderful invention: The new SONAX Xtreme Shampoo 2 in 1 wash & dry with “built in dryer”. Apart from gently removing grime, it also saves you from having to leather dry. Just add a capful of “2 in 1” to a watering can or bucket of clean water and pour it over the entire car. The visible drying effect is astounding: the water simply evaporates, leaving no residue on the glass or paintwork. What remains, is a dry and shining, perfectly clean surface, and no streaks! This leaves the car perfectly prepared for a thorough polishing, just what the car needs after the long winter.
